About me
I'm just a regular gal currently living in Montréal, Québec, Canada. Yet one thing that makes me a bit different is that my life is strongly influenced by diabetes.
In 1993, I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (also called juvenile or insulin-dependant diabetes). In other words, for the past 14 years, I've been pricking my fingertips for blood samples 1-5 times a day, taking insulin injections 2-5 times a day, and resisting candy binges.
Since 2002, I've been a full-time research student striving to find a long-term, non-invasive treatment for diabetes. Our research team is working on a method to treat type 1 diabetes using microencapsulated islet cell transplantation.
***More details about my research will be posted in the near future***
In January 2007, I finally decided to sign up for Team Diabetes Canada. It's something I've been meaning to do for years and I'm thrilled to be part of this project. Now I exercise a lot more and I take less insulin.
