Donating FAQ

How do I donate to help cure diabetes?

Please go here for instructions to make a pledge. Thank you very much for supporting me as a marathon runner and member of Team Diabetes Canada!

If I make a pledge for your marathon, where does my donation go?

Basically, the money that you donate goes into the big pot at the Canadian Diabetes Association (CDA). Via the Public Programs & Services and Research, approximately 68% of the total revenue is used to directly support the CDA's four pillars : research, education, service and advocacy. And, yes, some of the money collected is also used to pay for my plane ticket to Iceland, though the CDA gets good travel deals to minimize the expenses and we members of Team Diabetes Canada are working very hard to raise awareness and funds for diabetes. A detailed breakdown of the CDA 2006 Financial Statement is available online here.

Is it safe to donate online through your site?

YES. My site is simply a link to the Canadian Diabetes Association website. They assure me that donating using the online system is the simplest, fastest, and safest way to pledge a Team Diabetes marathon participant.

Do I have to use a credit card to donate?

NO. You can also pay by cheque, payable to the Canadian Diabetes Association. Cash donations are also accepted if you give it to me directly. Please go here for instructions on how to donate.

Is my donation tax deductible?

YES. All donations of $15.00 CAD or more will receive a tax receipt by the CDA by mail. Just make sure to either donate online or fill in a pledge form.
